bring back mauser duffle cut ?

been reading about bring back mausers and i am trying to figure out what a duffel bag cut is all about. why would you have to cut the mauser to put it in a duffel bag.

Good links, but none mention that GIs were not simply cutting the stock. They were taking the action and barrel out of the stock as well, reducing the overall length of the parts. Simply cutting the stock doesn't make the rifle shorter - unless you're the idiot who cuts the stock at the wrist.

It is also worth mentioning that some rifles were deliberately duffle-cut after the fact (by collectors, not soldiers) to make the rifle look like a bring back.

It's always a good idea to pull the lower barrel band forward on any military C&R rifle before purchasing, just to make sure there is no surprise later.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

              98k total length = 44"
              Stock length = 38"
              Barreled action length = 32"
Buttplate to barrel band length = 33"
WWII GI duffel bag total length = 39"
I can't see any advantage to faking a duffel cut on a 98K. Most vet "papered" bring backs have a mismatched bolt, and most everything else is going to have an import mark. An all matching, unmarked 98K, without a duffel cut, is going to be more valuable than one with a cut. Anything with a cut, and any mismatched parts, would be an obvious fake. Just sayin.

They didn't just bring them home in duffel bags. Many were shipped home and the stock was cut so it would fit within the crate that was available or that was allowed.

                (from the Kreigsmodell book)

I have an Arisaka and bayonet and the crate they were shipped home in. Fortunately the stock fits inside the crate so the stock isn't cut.
                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Depends on the rifle and the duffel bag/crate. The top two rifles are not cut. The lower rifle is cut under the lower band.
