    "CMP-AMC": Anyone gone? Anyone going?

Just got the latest newsletter from the CMP and the headline is the announced dates for their 2014 Advanced Maintenance Classes.

Anyone gone or going? Seems like a heck of an opportunity to pick up a "special" grade, and learn how to build and maintain it from the experts.

The 2014 AMC class schedule is:

    January 31 - February 2
    March 28 - 30
    June 4 - 6
    August 8 - 10
    September 26 - 28
    November 5 - 7

The three-day class is intended for individuals interested in knowing how the M1 Garand rifle functions in detail, as well as those desiring to know how to properly perform advanced maintenance procedures to their personal rifle(s). The class involves classroom lecture as well as hands-on shop time. Tools will be provided for students to use during the class.

There is a $1,400 fee for the class and includes the CMP Special Rifle that participants will build in the class and three lunches that are provided.

I shot my wad on a couple of service grades ,ammo, and parts.
It sounds like a lot of fun though, and you get a rifle you put together

If it weren't for the fact that I would also have to go to Anniston and that the boss would never approve of such an expenditure I absolutely would.

It's a great deal, especially since you get to build your own M1. I would love to do this but I just can't justify the cost right now. Hopefully someone here will go and report back on how it was.

Yah, it's already going to be a what, $3-400 plane ticket, plus hotel. Not really worth it to me

However, it sounds like an awesome opportunity. How many people will get to say, "I built this from CMP parts *smug*"
March 29- April 5, 2019- The Million Mag March. Thank you, Judge Benitez and all the vendors

I'm going to give it a shot and see if I can get registered Monday morning.
Told the wife I would take her for a three week vacation and drive out there. I get my three days and she gets the rest of the time for seeing the country.

Have to consider the scheduling, but considering Anniston is only a 6 or so hour drive away now it's definitely being considered.

I've attended that class, you'll get a lot out of it if you've never twisted one together before, if you have assembled one from parts, including the barrel to receiver, it's just OK IMHO. I believe the NRA M1/M1A accurizing class taught at the Lassen Community College gunsmith school up in Susanville is a better bang for the buck if you have the basic M1/M1A assemble knowledge already in your bag, especially so when you compare the cost (tuition/travel/lodging/food) of the two programs.

                      Have a good time.

Really tempted. Just not sure I could pull it off. None of the classes fall at a time that my son would be at his moms (6 weeks in summer, a week at Christmas, this year a week at Easter), so I'd have to either find a place for him to stay or take him with me, doubling the expense. As much as I would love to give him both the experience as well as his own M1 Garand, not sure I can afford to.

Anyone else trying to register? The site crashed right at 6am and I haven't been able to get back in since. Must be tons of demand!

Took me about 20 minutes but I made it. Just keep hitting refresh.

                              Good deal.

Just got in but it never asked for payment info, and my status shows Awaiting Approval. Does that sound about right?
