    sks pics

Here is my sks. Had it for about a month now, good shooter. OOOO steel wool and old English scratch cover for dark wood to blend and then about 4 coats of boiled linseed oil. Stock is rough but it still has character.

Looks good, comrade. SKS's are just such great rifles. Form and function. Excellent shooters with a fascinating history.

The wood may be a little worn, but the metal looks to be in great condition. Nice rifle.

                  Your stock's better than mine...

I just got one of these too... Your metal looks comparable to mine. But my stock is nearly black. Looks like it was soaked in creosote for the last half century. It's got this sticky, tarry, nasty feel to it. Stinks too. I'm used to cleaning cosmoline, but cosmoline comes off...

It's loose and rattly too. Have to get an aftermarket stock if I'm going to shoot the thing.

Once you sweat out the cosmo, try cleaning it with BLO and a piece of burlap. Scrub it down a few times with that and see if that takes away the tackiness and cleans it up.
