Melt down a FINE 1889 Carson City Silver Dollar. The silver ones are more accurate than the gold ones.

I don't think any of those will work on the .54

Now my 8gauge double barrel no problem

You muzzle stuffer guys got hosed. Copper sabot round?
          Sacramento morons!
They'll ban lead hunting ammo, to maybe, possibly, prevent a gut eating scavenger from ingesting some lead.
Now we have to use a solid copper bullet, with a non expanding lead nose. The equivalent of a FMJ, that is also banned from hunting use??? Why? Because it kills inhumanely, allowing the animal to crawl off somewhere it most possibly won't be found, to die a slow agonizing death. Dumbazzez!
New version of the Spotted Owl farce. Can't cut virgin growth because that's their only habitat. Destroy the timber industry, and then find out there's more owls thriving in second growth.

If they make a sabot find the appropriate barnes projectile. If you know how or someone on here might make a sabot cup and buy a 45 cal hp non lead bullet.

Thompson Center makes .54 sabots that come with various bullet styles.

I know most Hawken repro's were rifled with a twist suited for round ball. How well is that going to work with a sabot?

I have seen lead free round balls at SHOT shows but, I don't think any of them are DFW approved and even doubt that any are currently being marketed in the states. Unfortunately, I think we'e stuck using sabots and my old .54 LH TC Renegade has a 1:66 twist. The "newer" TCs (I'm talking 1980's vintage and up) have 1:48s if I'm not mistaked and will shoot conicals OK but not great. I don't know about sabots since, I've never shot 'em.

CSA thanks....see I'm going to have to slug the barrel to get the best fit.

Fired lots of lead buffalo bullets out of her before. They did better than the round balls.

If the bullet making companies don't get on it California may have just outlawed muzleloading

I talked with Barnes and a couple of other makers of lead free muzzle loader bullets. They all have told me that the lead free conicals require a 1:28" twist barrel to stabilize them.

I have a 1:48" twist TC Renegade in 54 caliber and two different lead free conicals and two different lead free sabot loads did not work. They all keyholed at 50 yards and shot into 12" groups.
