I have a Norinco SKS. When I bought it many moons ago the bayonet it came with was not attached. The bayonet really didn't interest me at the time, so I never put it on. Recently I tried to put it on. There are no threads in the bayonet mount for the screw to hold on to. Were the threads drilled out or what? Maybe it had something to do with the old federal assault weapons ban? I've also heard that some bayonets used some kind of rivet instead of a screw. Thanks.

Hello,
The Chinese SKS was originally riveted. I had one pre-Norinco that came that way and was legal in that configuration.
By the time Norinco started, laws had been passed and the Chinese SKS was no longer a C&R (don't remember if it ever was, actually...)
At any rate, do not attach that bayonet. You'll be in violation of Federal law.

Josh, can you clarify on that? Link to the section? At any rate, do not attach that bayonet. You'll be in violation of Federal law.
After what it took to track down that damned rivet, and install it, there's no way in hell I'm drilling that bugger back out!

Chinese SKS rifles imported after the 1989 Bush Sr. ban were not allowed to have bayonets. Rifles imported before the ban can have bayonets. Chinese SKS rifles imported after the Bush ban can have bayonets if you play the 922(r) parts count game. C&R Chinese SKS rifles are exempt from the ban.__________________
