    Steyr 95

Up until now i have only been interested in shooter C&Rs. i sold most of the duplicate mosins i had.. I love C&R carbines. i think i am ready for a few that will not be shooters. i was at a gun store and they had a few Steyr 95s and i instantly liked them. the price seems interesting also. ammo price, reliability and accuracy will not be a issue to me. i might never fire it but one time. i am sure a K-31 is a better rifle but i just loved the simple looks and feel of the Steyr 95. your opinion is welcome and if you have a nice looking one i am interested in buying one. remember negitive info is fine but this is not going to be a shooter or investment C&R to me. Thanks.

If you are just collecting to collect then why wouldn't you get it? It's cheap. I got a Hungarian M95/34 U-Fix-Em from Century for $70.

totally agree with you i think the long rifles are gorgeous, they're very slender stocked and almost pike-like. the little stubby carbines are not as elegant as the long rifles imo.

also, the straightpull, while as you say is certainly not as lovingly made and pristine as the lathed parts of the k31, but when one considers the Austro-hungarian empire made millions of these, theres just no way they could be made with the same love and care as the swiss with their army of a few hundred thousand.

i think they're great, personally, and under-rated. i guess since their ammo is so expensive they dont quite have the reach into the shooter community that mosins and mausers do.

there's a sticky on them in this forum which is amazing, have you gone thru it totally?
"If the American Left wanted to decrease interest in shooting, they should have the government make it mandatory like they do here in Switzerland. Nothing makes you not want to do something like when the government makes you do it."

I have a M95 Austrain Carbine, I really like it!
The recoil esp with the carbines are pretty stout.

(That's not a light spot on the stock - it's the sun hitting the wood)
The guns are fairly cheap, the ammo is a bit expensive but still avail.
          And more thing:

I have a Budapest M95. One of my favorite surplus rifles. Shoots surprisingly well. I reload for it but factory ammo is available....

Graf & Sons, the reloading authority, has a wide selection of reloading supplies, shooting supplies, ammo and more.

Not a fan of shooting it (but then, you're not planning to), it's too light for the round; but I do collect them. Interesting rifles, do you research before buying (so you know what to look for, if it matters to you). Also, if you get one in 8x50R (unconverted to 8x56R), it has way greater collectible value, but you likely won't fire it even once - no ammo. A couple of reloaders of rare cartridges occasionally have ammo or components for it, but that's pretty much it. 8x56R is still available.

Nice rifle, love mine. Straight pull can be hard to pull back sometimes.

been doing some reading up on them. is it really a big deal to NOT single feed them without using E block. saw a Vid and a guy was shooting it one at a time without a problem. i am such a bumbler the first time i take a bolt apart. no matter how many times i watch a Vid i am sure i would screw up.

I have a couple of these, a 1903 Bulgarian Contract and a Chechoslovakian refurb. I'll bring at least one to the shoot on the 17th so you can check it out if you want. I don' think I have any ammo for it at the moment though, I'll have to check. If I find some you can try shooting it as well.

They are fun, very handy guns. If you plan on shooting it, reloading is a must. You can get a sizing die and size .338" bullets down to the proper .329", and use any of the modern brass with them. I love mine, and have for years. They make good brush guns.

I have read you can break the extractor if not using the Enbloc Clip.

If you get one and need a clip let me know, I will mail you one. I have a couple extra and may even be able to dig up one with the Nazi eagle stamp on it.

I have 3 and load for them, they are fun guns.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.
