German K98?

I'm guessing that either these are very hard to find and/or very expensive to find in working order. I've done a little looking just out of curiosity but maybe someone could point me in a direction. Do they still exist on the market?

Also - Are for a K98 only or a Mauser-style rifle?

If you want the latter, may I suggest a Yugo 48 or even a 24/47?

Might be something to consider but I really did want a German one since I'm slowly putting together a WWII line infantry collection.

Truth is being on the losing side of the war many of the real German ones were captured and mutilated. The waffen stamps got removed by the Russians and other countries....

The Russain Captured ones, though not matching, are still all German parts. I have an RC that I like and want to shoot more

Not very hard to find. If you look you can find decent ones for around the same price as a M1903A3 or M1 Rifle.

All it takes to fine a nice rifle is time, effort and cash....Just attend gun shows. You will eventually find what you are looking for.

Looks like maybe a refinished RC stock but the bluing looks original to my highly untrained eye. Not a world ending price but still, well under what you'd expect to pay for an M1 Garand for example. K98ks are definitely still out there - it is just harder to find big commercial websites/stores selling them.

That is not a German stock, I don't think. No takedown hole in the butt. The later Kriegsmodel stocks had a different butt plate.

Not sure what that stock is, but it ain't right, and his price seems a little optimistic.

You just have to be patient, and keep your eyes open on the collector exchange, the general rifle marketplace, armslist, and even craigslist.

The problem with patience though, is you only have a month and a half worth left before buying one becomes a pain in the butt.

If you end up searching for a matching make sure you bone up on knowledge. There's a lot of information out there and almost as many people willing to help. Check out k98kforum.com - lots of experience there as well. And beware the turds - some are much more convincing than others (I'm talking about rifles, of course :-)

Not too hard to find. I have a couple of RC's and a Czech capture, with a Yugo capture on the way. My RC K98 is an incredibly smooth and well built rifle, especially considering that it is a mixmaster.

If you want a nice Mauser at a great price look for a Yugo M48 or 24/47. You can find these rifles in perfect, matching condition for $300-ish.
