    SKS Jungle Stock

I picked up one recently off ebay. So far all the pics I've seen on the net looked good.

However, the one I received has this huge seem in the middle of the stock. I guess thats how these were put together but is the seem suppose to be that big? Its about 1/8" wide.

I haven't seen any seems in the pics on the Net. Maybe its just the angle the pics were taken.

Did I get a bad one? Is it normal for these stocks to have a seem that noticeable?

I'd ask around the SKS forums, they are very helpful with this kind of stuff. A pic would be helpful too.

I have a plastic jungle stock and the seam is a little hard to see at first. But once you notice it, it's easy to see. Not sure by your description. Maybe a couple of photo's would help.Be careful when tightening the cross bolt nut. If you tighten it too much you'll crack your stock.

Are you sure it's not the recess for the blade type bayonet?

Pics of the stock. Is the size of the seam normal for these stocks?

Can I? Is it possible to do that and blend it smoother? I don't want to paint it. I kinda like that red color that's on it.

I have a spare jungle stock in the garage, and it has the exact same seam.

I was disappointed because I was expecting it to look like this. I picked up the stock figuring I could clean up the SKS quickly and easily with just a stock swap.

not into the new stocks beeing offered, you know what i mean ive always wanted a fiberglass stock for my sks, but in original form. seen some pics of these a while back and i knew i had to have one,

Thanks for that. I was getting the feeling that I got screwed with a bad one. I'm gonna try to make the best of it.

Started this hobby converting Saigas. Gave the Dremel a long vacation when I started on ARs. The Dremel is now back on the job.

Took a stab at sanding and refinishing the wood stock that came with it. At first it didn't look so good but now its turning out to be the easier project than the jungle stock I got. The wood stock isn't perfect. Its numbers don't match and there are two spots where its been cored and plugged with another piece of wood. I figure I'll stain something dark to cover up the imperfections. Will post another thread with pics of that when I have that done.

I also tried fitting the jungle stock. They weren't kidding on the fine print when they said "some fitting may be required". After some Dremel work on the front, the inner sides by the barrel trunnion, and by the trigger; I was finally able to insert the receiver into the stock. Although it was still a tight fit.

As for the seems, it looks like the two halves didn't exactly match in some spots at the butt stock. More Dremel work to do there. I'm figuring maybe some filling with 5 min epoxy, then trim, then sand, then smooth with rubbing compound and polish. Anyone know if I can add color to the epoxy to match the stocks color? I want to finish this without having to paint it.
