    stevens 410 shotgun model 9478

I was just handed my great grand fathers shot gun. My father stated he has had this shot gun since the 1950's. I will be holding on to it for my great nephews who are now ages 6, 5, and 3.

This gun reminds me of that new Country song, Grand daddy's gun. The thing is almost mint condition (minimal use)

Anyone know anything about these? the serial number is D055xxx

Stevens Model 9478, another variation on the Model 94. Produced 1979-1986, available in 10,12,20 gauge and 410. Also available with 28, 30 and 36 inch barrels. Single shot, exposed hammer and bottom action opening button.
No published DOM records, and they were made after Savage stopped using the letter code.

The Model 94 came out in 1929. Does your shotgun have the black plastic release on the front of the trigger guard?

Well then, we know it was made after 1978. I thought maybe someone had put a 9478 barrel on a 94 receiver, if that's even possible. BTW...I had the dates wrong, made 1978 to 1995. I think in 1986 there was some kind of change, but still labeled a 9478. Post some pics!
If he still has that time machine, can I borrow it to see if I ever live long enough to retire?

Here it is. I spoke to my brother and he has no idea either. I know that my brother received the old 30-30 so we are not telling dad. Just letting him assume that it is great grand dads gun.

                Thanks for the info guys

I have my grandfather's model 94 in .410. He used to hunt quail with it in San Francisco City parks back in the 40's.

My granddad was a heck of a shot as was his father, my dad didn't care to hunt or shoot, I think the war had something to do with that, that old Fox has taken a lot of birds, it was my only shotgun for years, shot a lot of pheasant & quail with it.

My brother is using the 30-30 on his property in norther New Mexico. Loves knowing that our great grand father is with him in spirt when he shoots it.

That thing looks brand new! You usually see them all beat up from being someones truck gun.
