matching numbers

My son and I took out the Mosin 91/30 for its second run today. Its fun that just can't be beat when you consider the cost of surplus ammo. He kept asking , "dad, get the Mosin"

I noticed today while cleaning the Mosin that it did have all matching numbers, even the bayonet. Are these just BS numbers stamped on by the importer before resale?

Most fun ever. The gun loads easy, chambers easy and shoots straight. I'm looking forward to adding more surplus to my collection.

No, they are original, even ones that are struck and restamped or electro penciled are original. Importer only laser etches their info on the receiver

Or in the case of CAI, a nail and rock to smash in their billboard import marks.

Well, if you want to be particular, there is original matching and force-matched. Original matching means those numbererd parts were part of the rifle when it was first put together. Force-matched means that when the rifle was arsenal overhauled, replacement parts were used and those were re-numbered to match the gun. Personally I don't care as long as it's a good gun.

What I meant by the renumbering was that it was done in Russia after the war and thus ALMOST as old as the gun. Not something importers did before shipping them over

So force matching may not be TRULY original, but still...
