garand ammo and supplies - where to find

Apparently CMP is ahead of schedule and my Garand should be here in a week or so. I was expecting it in December.

Now, I am behind in getting some ammo and supplies.

I see Ammogarand.com has 1968 and 1967 LC at abour $1.20 a round plus shipping. No much other choice out there as far as I can see.

I do intend to reload in the future, so reloadable brass is desired.

In terms of supplies, I guess I need a few clips and a cleaning kit to get started. Anything else? A sling, for sure, too.

This is my first high powered rifle. It should be fun.

If you got a M1 on order from CMP, order the ammo and clips from them. They have been shipping it out pretty quick (ammo).

If you want to squeal like a pig, there is a guy selling the same ammo you can get from CMP for twice the price in the collectors exchange.

+1 on getting ammo and clips from the CMP, the HXP stuff is loose from multiple lots but if you sort it by date it should be consistant enough.

Seems like a waste of time. I would be shocked if you could notice a difference, even with a chronograph.

Go with cmp. It took only 2 weeks to get my ammo from them.

Stack the Greek from CMP as high as you can afford. I bought several cans that were still in enblocs before it ran out a while back. One of the few true bargains I ever got on ammo. The loose stuff still cant be beat.

I only recently acquired my first Garand, and haven't shot it yet. I ordered ammo from SOG and got some more via CG private party, including a sealed tin of the Greek CMP ammo. Most of what I got has been around .60 - .70 per round, all milsurp.

Web site says months which is why I was hesitant. How long ago was this purchase? It might be my new plan.

I placed my CMP ammo order on 10/7 and it is supposed to be delivered on 10/17 (at least that is what the tracking number says).

What else do I need to buy while I'm shopping there. 25 clips, for sure.

                          Maybe a bayonet and scabbard?
Eventually you might consider getting some spare pins from the CMP (trigger, hammer, etc) and new op rod spring (Orion 7 comes to mind) http://www.m1garand.com/.
Don't forget to clean and lubricate your M1 when you receive it. http://www.garandgear.com/how-to-grease-your-m1-garand
For now just have fun with your new M1.

If you want to clean it properly, you need 2 items:
