    K31 sight question

    Hey experts,

I took my new-to-me K31 out for the first time today and fell in love. What a sweet, sweet shooter.

However the sights are quite off for my eye; I was consistently shooting high by about 6" and right by about 8".

I'm not exactly sure how to go about adjusting these. Do I need a tool and if so, which? I know the blades come in different sized but I couldn't see any marks on mine to know which I have. Maybe I just missed it?

Any advise or help from the experts is more than welcome. Thanks in advance!

What distance were you shooting at and what ammo were you using?

That's normal. Compensate. Those rifles are set for meters. The graduation on the rear sight of a K31 run from 300 to 1500 meters. Use Kentucky elevation.

          10-4.

Just to confirm, the number 1 on my sight = 300 meters?

Since it's 300m zero and you want POI impacts at 100 I would recommend one of these. I have one on my M48 and it made a world of difference in accuracy and ease of use.

Opinions vary for those sights (+-). If you plan on ever shooting in Military Arms type matches your scoring will be worthless by not keeping the sights original. In the meantime, congrats on a great accurate rifle.

The K31 is a rifleman's rifle so you have to learn it.

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...
My rifle and I know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...
My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!
I, for one, know that I shoot my K31 better than my 1903, 1903A3, AR or M1. I always find it funny how the Anti's are afraid of "Assault Weapons" when I shoot the bolt action K31 so much better.

There are a couple of different tools available for making adjustments to the front sight blade... I'd adjust the front for proper POI and then just accept the range and compensate accordingly. 100 yards is nothing for those rifles, and you should be able to find a consistent aim point when the angle adjustment is correct.

                  Congrats on your K31!

You should be able to drift the front sight for windage. You will need a taller sight if your POI is hight with a 6 o'clock hold.

Had similar issues when shooting my sweede at the range. When I was finally able to get to a longer range it was perfect. I was going to change the sight but decided it wasn't worth it. If like me all you have close is 100 yards just shoot the 22s more and save the bigger rounds for when you have more real estate to shoot at.

This is incorrect. The M1911 and the K11 sight starting at 300 meters but the K31 rear sights are set for 100-1500 meters.

                        According to the manual,
At distances in excess of 300m, it is necessary to aim at the bottom of the target; less than 300m,
aim at the center or just at the bottom
The manual goes on the state,
can vary depending on the eye of the shooter, the resolution of
the target as well as other factors. If the distance off target is small, the shooter will adjust the aim
                        point by
himself to adjust for the distance by observing where the shots hit the target. Otherwise, if the
shot distance off target is large, then the front sight should be moved or change
The eye of the shooter can also be affected by the check weld. If the weld isn't consistent or you are holding your check high off the comb of the stock the sight picture will be off.

The K31 manual in English can be found here: http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/index.html

If when you have a solid cheek weld, your eye doesn't give you a good sight picture, you may need a pad to raise your check off the comb. If the cheek weld is solid and the sight picture is good, you can check with the guys on the SwissRifles message board on purchasing a tall sight here: http://theswissriflesdotcommessagebo...y#.Uls4chB6hwM

^^ This and 6 o'clock hold should help.

I've never adjusted the front sight on my K31 but a nut splitter will work just fine for making adjustments. Here it is in Latigo's Swiss Rifle Central sticky at the top of this forum http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...9&postcount=20.

i just use a brass drift punch and small brass mallet to drift the sight on mine, they dont require a lot of force to move, as for the height, i actually just ordered an original front sight front a guy who goes by Guisan on all the forums. message him and he can help you get an original front sight

Edit: MINE doesnt require a lot of force to move (Fixed it Latigo!)
