Made in Germany in the 1930's for export to either Spain or Romania or both.__________________

I had never even heard of 8mm with no headstamp and green primer sealant until I saw this thread. I had seen the Czech post war clandestine stuff but not the stuff Smeg just posted.
So I just did a Google search and found a bunch of threads on Gunboards talking about this ammo. Some of the guys there still have it in the original Polte boxes with Romanian printing on them. Some say it was intended for Franco's forces in Spain and then later diverted to the Romanian Air Forces.__________________

German ammo made for export to Romania, probably surplus Spanish Civil War stuff. It came in 20 round boxes, brown or grey, some w/ stamping in Romanian language, others totally blank. It was made by the DWM factory, and Polte factory. It is bi metal s.S. ball. 198 gr. b/tail, corrosive. Yugo ammo even from that era was the m38 round which is non magnetic, cpr/lead. Very good sure fire ammo, but the Polte stuff gives u around 10 to 20% cracked necks. No biggy since it's berdan primed, and mercuric primers, so most won't reload it.Comment

I didn't know people collected cartridges. Is 1909 dated .303 worth anything? I've been reluctant to shoot it in our Enfields since its so old.Because milsurp.Comment

It depends on where it is from, and what condition it is in. Not usually tons of value, but normally old cartridges like that are worth a few bucks. More if it is something rare. With .303 rounds, they are usually still good, assuming the primer hasn't been contaminated with anything. They were normally loaded with cordite, which is remarkably stable over time. I wouldn't shoot them simply because there aren't that many of them left.

Good thread -
Why would anyone collect 8mm ammo?
(My small collection of Kurz and regular 8mm below, nothing without base markings.)
IMO - 1909 era .303 is collectable - anyone with a CL Enfield, Lee Metford or Boer era Mk.1 carbine rifle might like it in their Boer collection.Attached FilesLast edited by pitfighter; 10-07-2013, 11:03 PM.Pitfighter.
