    scrubbed Mosin 91/30

I just got a hex receiver Mosin Nagant 91/30 from CAI. The interesting thing about this one is the barrel shank where all the arsenal marks should be was scrubbed. I can see the discoloration from the grind, fill, and polish job.

This rifle has only a 3 digit serial number from the arsenal on the barrel shank.

I checked under the receiver tang and it was scrubbed as well. There were small marks dotting where the year of manufacture should be.

The bolt, magazine floor plate, and the butt stock plate all have the same matching 3 digit serial number from the arsenal.

There are no "strike through" numbers anywhere on the gun. All arsenal serial numbers were stamped, not electro penciled.

There is an arsenal mark on top of the hex receiver near the barrel shank that was also hammered out.

    Is this example unusual?

I've seen a lot of Finn captured Sako's that have the Imperial Russian eagle milled off with that little dimple. I've never seen a Sako Mosin, M39 or M28/30, with the eagle there. On the other hand it seems like the other Finnish barrel makers, Tikka and VKT, didn't really care.

Could be a Balkan import. Care to share some pics?

Here are some photos of this "curious" piece:

Top of the barrel shank. Notice only a 3 digit serial number and no arsenal marks.

What looks like a very crude or damaged "sickle and hammer" stamp with an unknown mark on the receiver itself.

Here you can see the discoloration of the area where arsenal stamps usually are. Looks like someone ground them off, filled it in, and polished it.

Receiver tang and what looks like a stamp of Izhevsk arsenal and the year that was hammered out, with an "r" at the end.

I have a 1968 no maker m39 with the imperial eagle on the reciever. Kind of an odd example

I have 2 that look like that. They weren't scrubbed that cleanly though. Years are not visible but you can Barely just barely make out the makers. One Tula one izhevsk. I wouldn't say they are super rare but rather in the category of "interesting mosins." Cool gun though. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Thank you for sharing your experience. This scrubbed one took me by surprise. I had never encountered a military small arm that was scrubbed at the factory.
