    My First Six...

    Howdy everyone!
I am late in the game regarding mosins... but better late than never.
I plan to purchase two mosins a month (Oct-Nov-Dec) starting this month, and then seeing how 2014 looks.
I would love to have some input...which two should I grab first?
I've been reading on what to look for, and what to avoid as far as condition... but this forum's opinions would be most welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

91/30 and M44s are the most popular

I like hex receivers, but there really is no diff between hex and round. Heck, get one of each

You can find both in solid and laminate stocks

Aesthetic condition varies on your own preference. I like a few dings of character, but not thrashed. If anything, get one with a nice bore. Counterbore isn't a deal breaker, I think

The PU Sniper is $600 at Classic (I don't think they are sold out yet). That's the King Daddy in my opinion, and the one you should get ahead of all other Mosins.
The PU Sniper is a 91/30 with a scope on it. This is the gun that you are going to want after you buy a cheap 91/30 and realize how cool Mosins are. I would advise you to just get the good one up front and save yourself some time.

I'm leaning on a 91/30 Tula and something else for the first two. Looking at T-53...

I'm going to the gun show in Ontario this weekend...with eyes wide open!

What is the opinion on turner's?

Heard about Century, and will check them out.

Thanks so far, there is lots to learn...

If it has to be a Mosin/7.62x54 I vote PU Sniper and M39. You could also roll the dice on a Samco Yugo Sniper without the scope.

My opinion since you're starting out: get a cheaper Mosin and get ammo and that's less combined than the sniper. If you like shooting the Mosin, then get a sniper

I'd get as many Hex receivers as I could find for collections sake, and at least one Laminate for a good shooter. If you still have money, buy an Finn 39.

after my first big 5 mosin i went nuts finding other mosins. hex, ex sniper, tula, ex dragoon, M 91, M-44 carbine. I think i bought one every 2 weeks. then i sold a few to get other mosins i wanted. paid 620 bucks for a big 5 reproduction Mosin PU sniper. it was a great shooter and i liked it. stay with mosins until you have everyone you want. in the end you will keep them all or you will want other rifles and sell off some of them. i like shooting them a lot. i only have 2 mosins now. a molot PU sniper and a 1955 romanian M-44. also get a couple of SKSs. i never met a mosin fan that did not like SKSs.
