    Mitchell's Mausers and C&R:

I got my C&R in the mail today, so I'm going to make up a list of dealers in which to submit my C&R to. Has anyone submitted their C&R to Mitchell's Mausers? Has anyone purchased from them? How was your experience? I've purchased from them in the past, in that respect I've had no issues.

    Thanks for the help.

Most guys hate Mitchell's Mausers. Awhile back they pawned off some Bosnian 8mm rifles as Nazi K98s: most of us haven't forgotten that one. Mitchell's mark-up is unreal too. You can do better ordering a K98 from Classic Arms or elsewhere and cleaning it up yourself. I think the only reason to get a Mitchell Mauser is that you absolutely abhore any stock cleaning and dont care for any historical accuracy. Mitchell mausers are very clean and are totally rebuilt, though. However, for less money you can get a K98 with lots of swastikas. I, for one, enjoy getting to know my rifle during the clean up.

There are many collectors angry at the NRA and other organizations that let Mitchell's place their misleading ads in their publications.

Much better to avoid their rifles and go with an honest RC for a much lower price.

I agree with whats already posted. If you are looking for a collectible mauser Mithchell's aint it. You would be better served buying a russian capture mauser for less or saving your funds and buying a real K98 bringback.

Contact Dennis at EmpireArms.com. Tell him what you're looking for and how much you want to spend.

          Mitchell's is a tourist trap, big-time

My K98 was a gift from my folks, I think it was within reason, I bought one of the tanker Mausers the M63 that was shipped on the same order. So what sort of games have they pulled, in reference to the historical accuracy? Was this in their ads and literature?

                    I believe so.
They sold some Yugo M48 Mausers as German K98 Mausers.

Forgetting about their bad reputation for a moment, Mitchell's Mausers is a California FFL Dealer, so submittiing a copy of your C&R license to them won't really help you at all. They can't ship anything to a California C&R FFL.

                        Thanks for the clarification.

That flag image you have as your Avatar, is that of a patch or a flag.

Being a native San Franciscan that would be nice to have.

It's just a jpeg image I copied off of wikipedia. You can buy full sized SF flags from many flag companies though.

So why don't you add some additional information, instead of the 'here we go remark'. And just what was behind your comments anyways?

I asked a simple question, which others replied slightly off-topic about their reputation and I inquired further.

Well, for one thing, the "Tanker" Mauser, was not built for tank crewmen. From what I've read, they were built for hunting use and never intended for the military.
Mitchell's Mausers are not well liked by collectors, not only for their outright lies (such as Tanker Mausers), but also for the fact that they tend to restamp and refinish everything they get, then sell it for way more than it's worth.

If you are serious about collecting C&R rifles, get some good reference books and read up on what is real and what is fake.
