    steyr manliccher

    Hi guys,

I am in las vegas picking up my tokarev and cz 50. I have seen a styer mancliccher (hope I am spelling it right) in very nice condition with bayonet for 199. Store guy didn't want to go down even a dollar.

Is it over priced? If not what should I look for.

Please advice. I am leaving vegas tomorrow morning.

    Thanks

    The Manclicker!

All in all, with the bayonet, that doesn't seem bad.

What do I need to check? Apart from condition and bore?

not a bad price. i'd guess it's an m95 mannlicher(proper spelling) made by steyr, Austria. the same were also produced in Budapest, hungary. fun rifles and that's not a bad price with the bayonet. I bought one at big5 years ago for 79 bucks, but no bayonet. long as the bore looks good and the rifle isn't hammered, it's a decent deal, many have matching numbers but don't get hung up on it. ammo can be funny but Prvi Partizan makes it. little under 30 bucks for 20 rounds and it's reloadable, which is a good deal. make sure you use clips when shooting because if you try to single-load you'll break the extractor. buy it, shoot it, love it!

I'm sorry, why is that "not a bad price"..? These can be purchased for $99 from J&G sales. Unless the bayonets are worth as much as the rifles, I'd pass...

            You got a crystal ball?

            Romanian m/1893
            Dutch m/1895

Both were made in Austria by Steyr and are Mannlicher actions. The OP didn't specify if it was a straight-pull or turn-bolt....?

Astro-Hungary was one county when most of these older military rifles were manufactured there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austria-Hungary

If it is a m/1895 Astro-Hungarian 8x56R then was it a rifle or carbine? A m/1895 rifle with bayonet would be a steal @ $199 while the carbines are far more prevalent though I'm not sure how common the carbine bayonets are. Plus there are two chamberings for the m/1895: 8x50R is the original chamber and is rather scarce on the collecting market. The 8x56R is the more abundant and inexpensive version.

Always nice to have details when making inquires about vintage firearms

And leave us not forget the German Commission Gewehr 1888 rifle... also a Mannlicher action also made by Steyr in Austria.

There will be a quiz later

Its a 1895 carbine straight pull. I will check the caliber it may be 8x56r.

SOG, Century, and J&G sell them. Bought a bayonet from J&G separate in very good condition. As was stated, you need the clips. Don't think they are included with the venders mentioned.
The stickys at the top of this page has the best information I have seen anywhere.

wow what's with all the snippy posts. I took an educated guess that it was an m95 because they're more commonly seen than the others. it would also be a fair bet that it's chambered in 8x56r, although the possibility exists it could be in 8x50r. if it has a big "S" mark on the receiver it's definitely 8x56r, although some were re-chambered and not marked, not very common though. as far as it being not a bad price, it really isn't when you consider money for shipping and the price of a bayonet. lighten up people, geeez.

                    Does it look like this?

Steyr (Austrian) M95 Carbine in 8X56r
I paid $109 ($79 plus shipping) for about a year ago from J&G Sales (Black Friday Special)
$200 isn't a great price but not the worst I've seen either
Bayo's are going from $50 (w/o shipping) and up on ebay.
J&G and Samco occasionally carries them but they go fast.

My M95/34 was $70 a few months ago. It was a U-fix-um from Century and was only missing it's safety.

                          Guys,

thank you for your responses, I went back to the store but the rifle didn't look like it was worth $199 for me, so I didn't buy it.

                          thanks

beauty of it is there's lots of these fish in the sea if you decide you want one. they pop up here and there.

I think that was a good call.
