    How do you mail ammunition?

    I know, stupid question.

But humor this girl and answer.
I would ask "school me", but I chastised the use of the term. In fact, I chidingly said that the poster should Google.

In fact, I have an excuse. I am hugely lazy about Google'ing today.
Additionally, I really want to interact with my Calguns compadres and get flamed a little bit in the process.

I want to put on the and the .

    So, here is my request....

    1. Best shipping method for ammunition.
    2. Best packaging method for said ammunition.
    3. Flame the OP.
    4. Answer the poll.

Forgot to add...the ammunition is C&R type ammo. That's why I am posting in C&R. Don't know if old ammunition needs special precautions.
    Manufactured in 1938 and 1939.

    See, that's what bothers me.

In this day and age, got Google?
    Buy a book?
    Read some threads?
Then come back with a poignant and enlightened question that will amaze us all?

You can't "mail" it. It has to be shipped by UPS or FedX ground and marked with a OMD sticker. Double box it the heavier the package it seems they try harder to destroy it.

Never shipped ammo, but when I bought some it usually comes by UPS, sometimes Fedex.

Unless things changed, USPS doesn't allow ammo to be shipped at all and UPS ground should be the cheapest. Unless people have business accounts with Fedex/UPS, than prices change.

Can't ship ammo via USPS since they classify it as an "explosive" , but you can ship it via UPS or FedEx with the appropriate ORM-D sticker. I've heard of people just drawing an ORM-D symbol on the box too and that seems to have worked.

Barring that, cut out/save ORM-D stickers from ammo shipments and use them for your own use when you ship out ammo later!

As far as I know it doesn't have to be a sticker. You can just write ORM-D with a marker on the box.

This is according to a UPS employee

UPS or FedEx are the only two real options. To comply with their tariffs you have to mark/label the box

Cartridges, Small Arms (ORM-D) ORM-D/Cartridges, Small Arms NOTE:ORM-D has to be "boxed"

The last time I tried shipping it via UPS, the counter monkeys gave me a lot of crap and did not know their own tariffs. Luckily I had a printed copy and 20 minutes to waste teaching them their own regulations.

Next time, I've been told by UPS support to tell the counter help to call this number with any questions/concerns:

UPS Hazardous Materials Support Center 1-800-554-9964

Print this label and use it, or hand draw it on the package:

Do a google search for ORM D Label do a print of a couple, tape to box, I use UPS but you have to go to a customer service center, the UPS stores don't do it.
BTW no extra charge for shipping ammo.

How about a handgun back to the manufacturer for repair?

You can ship firearm for repair and have it shipped back to you.

As mentioned, ammo or primed brass must be shipped via common carrier like UPS or FedEx. Their storefront operations won't usually accept the packages either and you'll have to drop them off at a customer service center instead.

The ammo should be in it's original boxes and packed so it won't rattle around.

The shipping carton should be marked with the old ORD-D label or the new version that's just a 2" B&W diamond.... as pictured here:
