What to do. FG HRA vs SG SA?

I just got an e-mail from the CMP giving me the option to upgrade my order of 2 HRA field grade rifles to 2 Springfield Amory Service Grades for an additional $100 per rifle. They say that if I decline the upgrade and want to stay with the HRAs it will take 2-4 weeks longer for the HRAs to show up. What do you guys think I should do? The extra $200 is not an issue for me nor is the added wait time. I already have a SA service grade and a HRA service grade. I am really at a loss what to do, hence why I ask for some input!

If money or wait isn't an issue and if you don't lean one way or the other with respect to HRA or SA, then go with the Service grades. All else being equal, I would always go Service over Field.

Service grade upgrade gets my vote.

Pulled the trigger and made the switch. Was leaning this way to begin with. Figure I can always make a trade with someone later on for a HRA if I decide I really want one, especially if I make a nice score on one of these Springfield Armorys!

If money/time wasn't an issue, you should've ask if you can get one of each. Wait for one HRA and receive one SA while you wait.

Good idea 3lsmc7, I thought about it, almost did just that, but decided to keep it simple, especially since I found with a little research, like Garandimal said, a lot of people have been getting some nice, early SA rifles w/ USGI wood (I got a couple such 6 digits not too long ago!). Either way I win, getting a couple M1s!

Orest recently posted that they're finding very few field grades. It's probably faster to get a service grade at this point in general - even the 2-4 weeks they suggested might have been optimistic.

I know it doesn't matter now since you already made the switch, and this is just from what I've seen, when they call you, usually means they have them waiting and ready to ship out, so you should be getting them pretty soon. I could be wrong, but its what I seen happen

While waiting for my HRA Service Grade, the announcement went out that they would be calling/emailing people to see if they wanted to switch from the HRA to the Springfields. I never got the call, but some people took it upon themselves to call/email customer service and essentially jumped the line and got their rifle before I did, even though I ordered 2-4 weeks before them.

general rule with CMP is if you can be their in person to inspect the field grade then you can find a decent one, otherwise mail order it's always best to go with service grade

You already have too many garands, give other people a chance to own one.

I have no idea if you are serious with that remark, however CMP and its predecessor have been around for long enough that those who want them should have gotten one by now. I only started buying from CMP a little over 2 years ago. I will buy as many as I can and want.

The two rifles shipped today. one 520,xxx and the other 3,107,xxx. Excited to see what they look like.
