    Sks troubles

Hello all, I don't know if I have this post in the right place, I have a problem with my sks that is driving me crazy. My problem is I am trying to put it back together, and when I try to put the piston extension/operating rod inside of its place and move the gas tube latch to the 10 oclock postion to lock it in, it does not stay in, I look down and I see the lever flap is not covering the top part of the rod and it does not stay in place. Also when I try to attach the gas tube with the lever at 10 oclock, the gas tube does not snap in, however it does when the latch is in the closed position, but I am able to remove the tube when the latch is lowered all the way! Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I had a similar problem once.

The handguard ferrule was loose and would interfere with the latch. It would slide back a little and the latch would catch on the gas tube blocking it from closing.

I had to repin the ferrule and file the ramp a little bit

Hello, thank you all so far for all your help. I fixed it already. The problem was the the part of the lever that holds down the gas tube had over rotated. The way I fixed it was I placed a flat head screwdriver in between the flat part of the pin and the rear sight base. I then lightly tapped the lever parallel to the barrel. That made it align properly. I was then able to reassemble the rifle with no problem.

Of all my rifles, the SKSs are always the ones which for some reason give me the most trouble assembling/disassembling. Which is weird how simple it is.

the design of the triggergroup i believe was done by a mad scientist its simple yet complicated you can see the redunant out of battery safetys one the back of the bolt carrier to catch the hammer if it drops out of battery and the other that little finger that needs to clear the bolt before it can drop the hammer
