Garand ammo in ?

I have a garand, not from CMP, that I just received with the original gas plug. I will be ordering another plug to shoot commercial ammo. I saw that there is PPU /PRVI M1 Garand ammo at wideners FS. If I purchase this ammo, is a plug necessary or not?

There is no other real information that I can find that states that a replacement plug is necessary or not. Has anyone had experience or advice?

That PRVI ammo is fine in a stock USGI Garand.

Looks like it was loaded to M2 spec. However, why spend $0.76/round when you can by an M2 ball from the CMP for $0.55/round shipped? In addition to getting an authentic M2 ball ammo, you will also be supporting the youth shooting program instead of supporting a business enterprise. Its a win/win deal.

Was about to post the same thing! About to have my 5th can shipped, they wait really isn't taking too long anymore as this latest ammo order was placed on 8/24/13.

I am haven't participated in a qualified event nor am I a member of a group. So I couldn't purchase from CMP, am I right on that thinking?

You don't need to participate in a qualifying event, only need to get an RSO to sign off that they saw you operate a rifle(and I keep seeing reports that an HSC also counts). You can sign up with RWVA, GCA, or some other group cheap. Then just get 1 of the pages(page 3 I think?) notarized.

If you're only ever going to buy 1 can, probably doesn't make sense. If you want to buy a few(and who knows what else), might as well send in your CMP paperwork.

Agree! I just received a can of HXP from CMP. Ammo was really clean and they actually gave me more than 200 rds in the can.

As stated above, the Prvi ammo is safe for your Garand.

You can easily meet the requirements for the CMP. Send in your paperwork, join the Garand Collectors Association, then order your ammo from CMP.

To buy ammo you only need to be a member of a club. You do not have to meet firearms handling requirement
I recommend the M1 Collectors Club for cheap club membership, only $14 per year
