    Reenactment Gear

    Hey all,

I am a history teacher and I am looking for where reenactors get gear like hats, jackets, basic soldiers' gear, and war paraphernalia.

I am specifically looking for Revolutionary War items.

The more authentic the better, so what sources do you have to suggest?

Try http://www.walker47.com/ who is more into Mountain Man stuff but he could point you in the right direction.

This place has pretty much everything http://jas-townsend.com/index.php?cP...65d05f604bf060.

Unfortunately a lot of the period stuff can get expensive. You may also be able to pick up some used clothing on eBay or Craig's list. Also check out renaissance fair sales because some people who participate in ren fairs also do colonial stuff too.

Jas Townsend specializes in rev war items. I have bought from them and they are very good at service even if their clothing is a little mass produced looking. For really nice stuff, Fort Downing traders and Smiling fox forge.

A thought to save some money, would be to invite some re-enactors into your class.
would allow several different styles of clothing, and gear to be presented.
Most re-enactors that I know will happily visit a classroom for a presentation if asked.

Most Rev War guys I know end up getting their uniform items hand sewn by others in the hobby. If you end up interested in the War of Northern Aggression, come down to Moorpark in Nov. There will be plenty of sutlers who would love to take your money. If you come down, I'll hook you up with a couple rev war guys who will be there fighting for the state's rights that they fought for in the 1770's.

                        Hey CSA,

Where can I find a listing of the various Regiments (chapters?) of reenactors. If some are close I would like to see if any of them would be willing to visit my class.

I stay away from the politics and don't have contact info for other units but, go to Howitzers.com and contact Ed. He's in the contacts. Tell him who you are and that I pointed you to him. He'll be able to find someone or point you in the right direction to find someone. Just make sure your school is OK with bringing "weapons" onto campus or, let anyone coming know that they can't even bring the knife in their mess kit. I would hate to see a volunteer end up in trouble when he is just trying to help educate our future.

Another vote For Jas. Townsend. I actually buy a fair amount of stuff from them.

Townsends is dedicated to exploring the 18th century living, cooking, clothing, and much more.
