    Enfield Experts chime in

I'm renovating a LE Mixmaster. Got a new stock already. Working on the metal side. I guess the L.E.'s were painted w/ some special paint?
Was considering cold bluing, but the paint is stuck on pretty well.
So retouch up the paint? or what?
Rust & Bluing remover didn't do squat. When I added some steel wool, I just scuffed the paint a little.

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

If it is anything like my Ishapore, it is a paint. I used Easy Off Oven cleaner to finally get all the paint off mine. Spray it on, let it sit, and scrape it off.

I believe it's called suncorite. Nasty stuff, but is supposed to be there.

I would leave the suncorite paint there, it's pretty tough tough to remove so probably not worth the effort. If you need to do touch up work you may not find anything that will match exactly. BBQ black paint might work but you will probably need to spray all of the metal so they don't look mis matched.

#4 and #5 were phosphate finished (parkerized) with Suncorite over that. #1mk3 and 5 were blued.

Mine looks about a hundred times better without it. Just saying.

That is looking like an easy option...

Collector value be dammed! I'll have $450 into this when it is done.
Now off to the Collectors Exchange to torture myself some more....

It is available from the UK in 5 gallon tins at one time I priced it out at $250+ S&H and possibly in a rattle can for around $40. Contact Brian Dick. Looks like it's under the wood so just slap on some BBQ paint.

I'm no expert but if you blast the paint off your up the river for sure. My self I don't worry about it unless it's bubbling rust then I use a little tin of rustolium semigloss OD green or black satin.

                    Good luck.

That looks like some interesting stuff. What kind of prep work is required before using it?

All I did was clean/degrease, spray, and then bake in the oven for durability. Worked and looked fine.

FWIW, I also did one with BBQ paint, and that seemed to work ok, too. It's not like I'm diving into trenches with it, so it has lasted a long time.

I have 2 cans left. One is reserved for Bruce if he wants it, but if anyone local to me (East Bay, SF) wants the other one for $10 shoot me a PM. I'll never use it.
