Just to show you what a WWII Swiss K31 sniper looks like...

There are two types, both look the same but there are minor differences. Only some 2200 were made during the late war years so they are quite rare and expensive.
Select barrels and Kern optics made these the best a K31 could offer.

The scope is located left of the receiver with a flip-up front lens, iron sights can be used at the same time.

    The reticle looks like this.

Elevation of the scope is set the same way as the standard rear sight.

    The flip-up front lens.

And the rear one, it creates a low profile and loading using chargers is no problem.

    The left side.

No scope in the way when cases are ejected.

Only the Swiss made them like this....

              How is it sighted in?
Looks like a tool would be needed?
Very cool nonetheless, a periscope scope haha

Wow, leave it to the Swiss to design something so elegant. Simple, clean lines and would not snag or break off as easily as most other scope setups of the time that are 5 kilometers above the receiver.

Thanks for sharing Guisan, very interesting.

It's sighted in by the arsenal's armorer with help a special square key. The shooter uses the elevation ladder only.

It was only during WWII that they made these.

Although officially not at war Switzerland was bombed and shot at by Axis and Allies many times and they had to fight back to defend their country against these attacks, they suffered quite a number of dead and injured because of these "incidents".
Switzerland not having been at war is a relative saying as in those days it was surrounded by war countries that did not always respect the Swiss borders.
I only know of one incident that a K31 was fired over the river Rhine towards Germany, most of the shooting was done by the fighter planes and the AA.
