I went by Annie's Get Your Gun this morning trying to track down some ammo and they had an ok looking K98k on the wall for $480. Seemed like a pretty good deal compared to what I have seen online. Just throwing that out there if anyone was looking.

Just a heads up on a k98 in Corona

1. Did it have a capture mark on the receiver?
(a heavy, often uneven, cross or X.)
Usually to the left side, not obscuring the factory markings.
2. Where any of the numbers matching?
(receiver/magplate/bolt)
If no to question one and yes to question two - I'm interested.
(and so are about 30 other people here.)Pitfighter.

going to corona isnt worth it. they eat their young there."If the American Left wanted to decrease interest in shooting, they should have the government make it mandatory like they do here in Switzerland. Nothing makes you not want to do something like when the government makes you do it."

Having recently taken an interest in K98's, I realized that this is a rifle that may be worth $250 or $2500 depending on factory, date, markings, matching numbers etc. No way to tell without physically inspecting it.Comment

I didn't look too hard because I did not want to fall in love but I did see 3 "dirty birds" on the receiver. I am not an expert so I didn't even know what to look for. Sadly my 98k was scrubbed"These surplus guns are cool not because they go Pew, but because where and when they have Pew'd"

So, I bought it. Checked it out at about 1030 this morning. Just got back a little bit ago with my copy of the DROS
Ok, here's the rundown:
Russian capture, 1940, code 42. Reciever, stock stamped matching. Bolt, trigger guard, butt plate EP matching. Butt plate was EP'd before then struck and EP'd again
Bolt assm, sight, barrel bands non match. Both small screws missing off trigger guard
Lammy stock! I'm in love. A few dings and scratches. 2 crossbolts at wrist, but no cracks anywhere
Bolt has 2 WA proofs, front sight (no guard hoop), (I think) rear sight leaf slider has 1 proof. Front receiver and rear receiver have 3 proofs each for total of 6 on the right side. Left side has eagle and swazzi stamp
Bluing is really good, matte... I'd say 99% (without butt plate), butt plate is prob 75% with some glossy paint. Takedown lugs are scratched up
Bore is bright and shiny with good rifling
I'm hoping it will shoot as good or better than my Czech MauserMarch 29- April 5, 2019- The Million Mag March. Thank you, Judge Benitez and all the vendors

I figured I'd let y'all know they have some other C&R's there as well
M1 Garand- receiver and such looked brand new. 5mil serial. Stock stamped in the 1.5+ mil serial range. New handguard. Barrel was pretty scratched up. Looked like there was a relief cut in the handguard/ stock for the bolt to cycle. Looked odd, but not sure if that's standard or what. $1199 before DROS/ taxes
Argentine Mauser sporter- I think it was $500ish OTD
Springfield 1903. Stock is pretty beat up. Price is $1400ish, but I know I got the Rock Island one and he knocked off a few hundred coz they've been sitting for a while
Krag-Jorgsen- looked good. No bluing (not sure if that was how they are). $4-500ish, can't remember, before DROS and taxes
I THINK the Eddystone 1917 is still there, but can't remember
Also had an AK there. Not sure if it was a 47 or 74. Looked pretty new so prob a 74March 29- April 5, 2019- The Million Mag March. Thank you, Judge Benitez and all the vendors

Congrats on your purchase. It appears from your description that it is fairly priced or even slightly underpriced IMHO in today's market. Code 42 is Mauser Oberndorf as one of the original Mauser factories so you have a little history if that means anything to you. I think that you scored well. Maybe it will appreciate a little more as we get closer to 1-1-14.So, I bought it. Checked it out at about 1030 this morning. Just got back a little bit ago with my copy of the DROS
