    Cmp M1 stock question

I just received my m1 service grade special and it's a sweet gun. The only thing is that it came with brandnew production wood that feels real gritty. 1) would you bother to have it refinished to something that feels smoother and looks nicer 2). Where can I go in San Diego to get something like that done? 3) am I better off getting collector grade wood to make the rifle correct grade?

Get some BLO and 400, 600 and if you can find it 1500 grit sand paper. Sand it with 400 and BLO over and wipe down then 600 and BLO again then 1500 and let the BLO soak overnight.

Hell I'm here in La Mesa till Sunday I can guide you through the steps.

I took the stain on my CMP birch replacement stock completely off. Sanded up to 400 grit I think and about 5 or 6 coats of pure tung oil with 0000 steel wool in between. It's a good looking blond.

I put three coats of Howard's Feed and Wax on mine and it now feels much nicer. I don't know why the new stocks feel so dry but once the feed and wax soaks in it gets a smooth, silky feel to it.
