    Schuff's Mini-G......Opinions

Hey guys, I have been cruising the internet and have come across the Schuff's Mini-G. I think I had been there once before, but it had not stood out to me in the same way.

So....Is it taboo to you? Something about it seems so wrong to me, but the other part of me wants to sell a couple guns get another CMP rifle and Git R Dun. But alas there is the last part of me that is far from rich lol.And about it feeling wrong the more I think about it the more I realize your really just changing a lot of parts. You can always take it back. Day dreaming about guns is fun Maybe one day when I grow up.

Any of you guys have one? Are they reliable in this configuration? Is it worth the money?

Or is there a way to just buy an op rod from him? The rest can be done on your own for the most part.

I am biased, to me, the M1 Garand is perfect as is. The mini G seems to be an answer to a question that was never asked.

If money were no object, I'd get one. It just seems there are better carbine options.

I built one a few years ago...

Pros... cool to fiddle with in your living room.

Cons...lots of dumb questions at the range
        very loud
        loss of distance and accuracy
has ruined a perfectly good Garand.

I like mine. Shuff didn't ruin a perfectly good Garand to make it, either... it was a bastardized mix of a good receiver and crappy Italian .308 kit, not safe to shoot. It is loud, so loud that my shooting buddies call it the "angry little rifle" and I'm not running a brake of any kind on it, just a trimmed down demilled tricomp. It's also true that it's not as accurate as a standard Garand, something Shuff is right up front about, but good enough to take game out as far as I can see without optics, exactly what Tim Shufflin says it's good for. It's still Garand reliable, nothing changed about that, unlike a lot of the "Tanker" conversions you'll see.

If you really want to tick off the purist types, have him make you a mag fed version with the Beretta style gas system and watch 'em cry...

I don't think he'll sell you just an op rod, he makes money doing these conversions. All you can do is ask, I suppose. He's a good guy, the worst he'll tell you is, "No". You'd have to get a barrel from him also as it's not the same configuration as any "Tanker" conversion. It's shorter.

Seriously? Don't do it to a Garand with collector value. Use some knackered, battered old Garand.

I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Is that your Italian kit barrel shortened or did he put another one on?

Love mine. It always gets peoples attention at the range. I have had no problems with it. Schuff definitely knows what he is doing.

There is no noticable loss of accuracy . They are a very nicely built rifle. Shuffs work is top notch
This in not a MiniG but a BM59 he built for me

I suppose if I had an extra M1 receiver laying around I might be temped. But then on the other hand, I already have a perfectly good M1A Scout that I am really fond of. Especially as I can easily install a scope if I decide to.

I think they're kinda cool looking. I wonder about value though. I've seen lots of similar conversion builds posted on forums asking value, almost always the replies are saying its only worth the value of unaltered parts.

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is. Blaspheme IMO. Garands should be left alone.

Many so called Tanker Garands are just that junk. They were built yeasr ago with welded receivers and many dont run right
Shuffs MiniG's runs like a top.
Alot of guys have them built for a brush hunting rifle.
Its only steel and wood, nothing blasphemous about it.
Would I chop up a collector rifle to build one ? No

Just had Schuff build me a BM14 on a Dupage mixmaster. It is very nicely done, I just need to get out and shoot it. Will be ordering a Mini-G next.
