    just got a 1903 springfield

i have a auto repair shop and a customer traded a repair job and a little cash for the rifle.
details Remington model 03-A3 ser # 35269xx lots of wood stampings
box with FJA inside P in a circle large wood stamp RA-P
it looks in very original condition. dirty wood. got 160 boxed 30-6 rounds in a ammo can. counting parts and 275 cash i only have 425 in it.
i do not even know how to remove the bolt . VERY HAPPY pics in a couple of days. i will take it to the WEGC shoot on the 25th. any 03 expert please chime in. it also came with a nice weathered leather sling.

To remove the bolt, there's a tab lever you flip and it will allow the bolt to come out

EDIT: It's at 3:05 of that video. It's a tab on the left side

We'll have an 03 and 03-A3 shootoff you and me

Sounds like a nice score. A 1903 would be just about the only American C&R weapon I would have any interest in.

Let's see some pics Notabiker. You know how to do it now!

Look at the muzzle near the sight. There should be the flaming bomb with a stamp like X-XX which is the month and year it was rebarreled

                As for production year: http://www.bowersweapons.com/US%20MO...R%20RANGES.htm

This site seems to be fairly highly regarded:

                  http://http://www.vishooter.net/ra_serialization.txt

Looks like the reciever is a March '43. As far as the barrel - others in the know may chime in - but from what I have gathered; one way to get something of an idea is if the barrel date matches (or is close to) the receiver date.

Not sure if there is a more concrete way to tell.

Further down the CMP thread: Remember, on vishooter's website to differentiate between the date of manufacture table and the serialization chart.

You're probably right, Arm. (Boss-man is looking at me with that, 'Get off Calguns look', otherwise I'd delve deeper.)

march of 1943, what is the best way to not hurt the nice dark walnut but clean it. i was thinking of using lemon oil or orange oil ?. to nice to refinish.
i like the rear sight on the A3 [ windage adj]
i hope my pictures come out better on the 1903. in a closed room should i use natural light or the flash. it seems i always get a lot of reflected light off the metal no matter what i try.

I'd really try natural lighting outside. Personally, and being a photog, I hate the flash and avoid it

Plus, the colors will come out better

Just for the love of God don't put it on the ground! Put a towel or something under it. (pet peeve of mine)
