    Mosin info help, please

    Hi,

I am new to Mosins and learning what all the symbols mean. I wondered if there is anything special about this one. It is in quite nice condition considering its age but I have no idea what the writing means. I realise it is a 91/30 1926 Hex. Anything else?

    Thank you for any insight.

The Cyrillic means "Izhevsk Arms Ordnance."

Bow and arrow are just Izhevsk's symbolic code stamp. Later it just became an arrow in a triangle.

The "r" after the year is "god" the Russian word for year.

The symbol that looks like the Roman numeral "II" in a circle is a powder proof stamp. I think it is their letter for P.

The square with a line through it means that it has been refurbed.

The Hammer & Sickle in a wheat laurel are just Soviet Crests marking their commie ownership.

Can't see any others to describe.

Emdawg. Great info. Thanks for sharing.

You could start a thread titled "what's on my mosin" and answer questions for a lot of us.
        Huh?

The rifle also originally was a dragoon rifle...at some point later in it's life the Soviets converted it to a 91/30.

edited to add: welcome to the M/N world. that is a good rifle to start with, it's got collector appeal.

Thank you. That is really quite amazing to know. It seems to make it a little more special.

It is one of the reasons why it is so appealing to me. I usually see 1930 and up and hardly ever see MN older than 1929.

What markings show that it was an "Ex-Dragoon"?

When that rifle was made they were still using some of the older features from Imperial productions, the most obvious was a open blade sight.

In 1930, to go along with the new production rifles, the vast majority of the Dragoon models were updated to the M91/30 specifications.

^^ OK. Very nice. I am now on the hunt for a Tula Hex with matching numbers. I can see this becoming very addicting.

It is addicting, there is no doubt about that.

As for a Tula Hex, what are you looking for? A 91/30, Ex-Dragoon, real Dragoon (have fun finding this one), or a M91?

                          I have a Hex Tula 91/30 made in 1935 and a Tula M91 made in 1896.

Not looking for anything in particular. I am still learning about the rifles. I just know I want a Tula Hex to start my collection. I am still waiting for my C&R to arrive. I am going crazy waiting.

The wait is always the worst part. At least you know what you want to look for so hopefully you will run across one soon.
