    Nasty Barrel

Started working on an AK parts kit today and tried to clean the barrel while i had it apart. The barrel is really nasty i scrubbed and ran patches through it for about 2 hours today and its still nasty in there. Seems to be corrosion or maybe surface rust. I have also ran into this on one of my enfields. Anyone try letting the barrel soak in something for some time to help in cleaning out a barrel, if so what did you use?

If you can plug the bore, fill it with Kroil and let it soak for a day or two.

I will have to try that. I was also thinking about doing that tubb bore lapping thing, think that will help?

I've used some of the JB Bore Clean (from Brownells) or Wipe Out foaming cleaner. Try the foaming cleaner first since it will be easier on your bore. The JB, and any lapping compound, contains abrasives that can wear down your bore. It's a fine line between getting it clean enough to shoot accurately, and scrubbing out the rifling.
