    Changing Cmp order (upgrading order)

calling the cmp tomorrow to upgrade my order from a HRA Service Grade to a HRA Service Grade Special is it worth it? it says most parts are USGI, but can anyone give me a better % of original parts? everywhere I go I hear the extra $300 is worth it

I have one. It looks damn near unfired. It was worth it to me.

Edit: Orest has said that the SGSs are as they came from the factory except they have new commercial wood. Mine is 100% parts correct with the exception of the new stock metal.

My reasoning behind ordering the SGS is this:

A regular service grade is basically a used rifle with mixed parts. Many already come with the new walnut wood.

NO - putting new wood on a srevice grade does not turn it into an unused, all original parts as it came the factory rifle.

The barrel on my service grade hra was be enough for me with muzzle of 1, throat of 2. I prefer the old gi wood. Yeah parts wise it is a but of a mix master. But it's my rifle, there may be many like, but this one is mine

I like your strategy, I'll be curious to see if they will let you upgrade. Judging from your posts I think we are on similar timelines. It was a leap for me to order the service grade special but the jet speed turn around has been an added bonus.

I'm just hoping it is more a shooter than a safe queen, and if it's not I'll look into some accurizing.

Oh yeah, highly worth it, you won't regret it! I love mine, can't wait to take it out to the range on Sunday. Like Lone_Gunman's mine looks like its never been fired. All of the metal is in excellent condition and every part that I could find a stamp on is marked HRA. The only discernable wear is from the storage box it sat in for 60+ years.

Careful though, I switched from HRA field to Springfield field and they still shipped me HRA, had to send it back and am hoping I get to the front of the line. All they will tell me is that it is being switched. The estore order info never switched so I asked them the day it shipped and they confirmed it was still an HRA, it was hard refusing delivery after waiting 4 months. My HRA service I got though is immaculate other than a few stock dings in the GI wood. Great looking rifle, I don't know that I would trade it and pay $300 more for one that may be nicer or matching parts.

Been thinking about getting a CMP SGS as well

                          Definitely go for it.
