I took the 1911 out for test drive Saturday and it shoots low and left. It looks like the rear sight can be move to correct for windage. Does anyone have experience with this? Its a 1943 Remington Rand.

Adjusting 1911 sights

Hitting low and left (right-handed shooter) is often a sign that you are anticipating recoil and pushing the muzzle down and away before the shot goes off.
Gun wise, look at the rear sight and see if it is centered in the slide.
If not, drift it to the right to move the point of impact to the right.
To raise the point of impact you need either a lower front sight or a taller rear sight.
I suspect this is not needed as the 1911 sight heights were pretty well figured out by 1943, they are set for elevation with 230g ball ammo.
If you are shooting lighter bullets they may hit low.
Do some rested shooting with 230g ammo to confirm the POI before making any changes.
