CMP running out M1 (some grades backordered)

    From email sent out today:

MANY M1 GARAND OPTIONS - SOLD OUT. As most of our customers and competitors know, this year has seen a nationwide unprecedented purchasing of firearms and ammunition. The panic buying, along with the increased popularity of the M1 Garand has impacted significantly on the CMP. Our store racks are bare and our M1 Garand ready to ship inventory of several grades and manufacturers has been wiped out and the waiting list (backorders) for some items exceeds 2,000 orders. As a result, we have stopped accepting orders for several grades and manufacturers. Please see http://www.thecmp.org/Sales/m1garand.htm for additional information.

They are not running out yet, they just haven't had the time to unpack, inspect and grade the ones that they have in storage.

Correct. They have too many pending orders and not enough M1s sorted and graded to fill them. If you actually READ the announcement, it is clear what the actual situation is. They are not "running out" - at least not yet.

Even if they're not running out completely, you can thank the douches that hoard them as an "investment" due to collecting and such.

Personally, I believe that the spirit of the CMP is so that our citizens have a fair shake at access to arms, because RKBA is necessary to the Security of a Free State.

They are giving people who's #'s are coming up on the HRA SG( which they the have most back orders on) the option to change to SA SG that are available. Did they offer that to you.

What worries me is after next year, whether or not we will even be able to use CMP anymore. Will they still ship to CA? Will they take a COE? Will they give CA the finger, since they're a govt. program? (wishful thinking )

                Who knows...

They will still ship to CA, but it will have to go directly to an 01 FFL and you will have to DROS it. Plan on spending about an extra $100-$125 for this process. This is what they are doing for NY, NJ, and CT residents now that they have their stupid draconian laws in place.

So basically, the purpose of buying through them in the first place has been defeated?

CMP is the best deal going for M1 Garands. If you don't have one, get one now before that rifle registration BS takes effect in the PRK. The great thing about them is they fire a 30-06 round in clips of 8 rounds. It's not a detachable magazine nor does it have any of the other evil features. It will likely fly below the radar for several years to come. The rifle is a little heavy but let's face it, our fathers and grandfathers carried them in the Pacific, Europe, Korea and even Viet Nam to an extent.

Once you have your rifle(s), they also carry 30-06 ammo at bargain basement prices.

I agree with Orlando. Even with the extra cost after 1/1/14, it's still a great deal and a great organization you are helping to support.

The most important object is to get these rifles out of the hands of the government and into the hands of the public. Whining about what other people do and fairness is counterproductive.
