    Fast Draw!

This old 8mm film shot in the '70's, of Jim Martin showing off his skills with a Colt SAA, recently surfaced in South Africa. Jim is a friend and my Colt gunsmith mentor.
Have you ever wondered who taught the movie stars how to handle a gun?
Like Burt Lancaster in Vera Cruz, drawing and shooting behind his back, or Kevin Cosner in Silverado, when he backs out of the bar, draws both guns, and shoots two bad guys at once.
Jim said they used the best of a dozen takes on that one, Cosner kept screwing it up. If you watch it again, he shoots the ground.
The first minute of the video is Jim, and then a fast draw competition, that was held in a downtown Los Angeles parking lot! Could you see that happening today?

I love that people are watching on a street corner, sitting in lawn chairs as cars go by. And in SoCal no less! Takes me back to a better time....

There's some great looking gals in there shooting - I wonder if any are still around - The footage is older than I am, lol.

Fun to watch this sport, except it makes me want to give it a try.

It looks like a fun time to have been into shooting.

LA? I know an Olympic Gold Medal trap shooter that was in a Safeway parking lot, L.A., when a pidgon shat on his brand new Camero. He was really pissed and got out his trap gun, shot the pidgon dead, got arrested, and then got released before being transported. There were serious warnings. That was about 15 years ago.

Practice, practice, practice, I tried this in Teas one time with a professional using blanks, harder to do that you think.

I shot speed steel when I was much younger (and could still see what I was aiming at), but drawing and firing a Colt 1911 is much easier than a Colt SAA!
