WWII 30 06 ammo question

Looking for something else I found a bag of 30 06 ammo with headstamps from 42 to 44.

Are they corrosive?

I have shot many hundreds of rounds of '42 dated Winchester surplus ammo through a Garand. Disassemble the rifle and remove the gas cylinder. Stick the barreled action in a bucket of hot water and run a patch up and down through the barrel. Do the same with the gas cylinder. That will remove the mercuric salts from the interior surfaces of the barrel and cylinder. I use the hot water method to clean the op rod too.

Dry it off, lube and reassemble.

PS; Don't forget to clean the rest of the rifle.

Or pull the bullets and deprime. Then prime with a modern primer and re-assemble. Good to shoot then without the problems.

Corrosive ammo isn't the demon that people would make it out to be. Shoots just fine and isn't a problem if you clean the rifle afterwards.

Meh, I just broke most of the stuff I had down and used the brass, powder and bullets. I think I even turned a bunch of the 44 marked brass into 7.7 Japanese cases.
