    SKS dust cover scope mount

we all know that most German and Russian WW 2 iron sights SUCK. i am not saying these cheap dust cover mounts are the way to go. but they can work better than the iron if you work on them carefully. the first problem is you must file the front tangs to get the rear locking pin to fit into place. if you file to much or unevenly left to right you are screwed. take your time. the other problem i encountered is at the rear by the locking pin their is some side to side slop that makes it impossible to shoot accurately. my scope was shooting to the left so i took a small hammer and peened the dust cover housing a little to get the slop out side to side in the direction i was trying to make the scope go. now the scope dust cover fits firmly and i can repeat shots. their are better ways to scope a SKS. but if you are a poor [ like me] plinker it will work good enough to enjoy shooting that SKS . yes i have that costa messa gun show POS 40 dollar combo mount and scope kit . the one thing i do like about the dust cover scope mount is i can take my original dust cover to the range and in about 30 seconds i can put the rifle back to how it was made. no holes or brackets on my baby. rember i am not saying this is the hot set up,but for a plinker it is better than nothing. i like it

I am good with stuff that can be undone. I would personally never add anything aftermarket to one of my beloved Simonovs, but to each his own my friend.

im with you, my 66 year old eyes just cant see threw that V or even a pep sight good enough to hit a target properly. i still kill em with iron sights at 100 yards on a steel plate [GONG]. none of my C&R are altered unless a refinished stock makes me a mosin KILLER.
