Late Notice - 3x600 @ Sac Valley Range 12 on Sunday, July 14

Sorry for the late notice, is anyone else going?

From pro-nra's post for the March 2013 match:

This is the high power guys match but they are nice enough to let us vintage guys shoot the match. A handful of us shot this match a couple of months ago and we had a blast. This is an easy match as we stay on one place @ 600 yards and fire 3 strings of 20 shots.

Unlike the silhouette match where you can only shoot SP/HP, there is no FMJ restriction so you can shoot your cheap milsurp ammo. Although not as fun as the silhouette match, it is still a blast.

    Sac Valley - July 13th & 14th - 200 to 600 yard matches

    July 13th (Saturday) - 200, 300, and 600 yard match

Standing - 2 sighters and 20 record shots at 200 yards in 22 minutes.

Sitting rapid fire - 2 sighters in 2 minutes, then 10 shots in 60 seconds with a required mag change. Then another 10 shots in 60 seconds, all at 200 yards.

Prone radid fire - 2 sighters in 2 minutes, then 10 shots in 70 seconds with a required mag change. Then another 10 shots in 70 seconds, all at 300 yards.

Prone slow fire - 2 sighters and 20 record shots at 600 yards in 22 minutes.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    July 14th (Sunday) - 600 yard mid-range all prone match - 70 rounds needed

This will be two sighter shots and 20 shots for record at 600 yards. Each shooter will do this three times, between pulling targets and scoring. After each shot, the target will be pulled and marked.

Many will be shooting AR Service Rifles (think Vietnam M16 configuration).

The good news is that anyone who is interested may shoot the entire match prone with a bipod, rear rest, and scope. With this setup, either day will be a VERY easy match. All types of equipment are allowed (any caliber under .38, bipods, scopes, irons, rear bags), and will be classed accordingly for awards. Match fee - $20. Each day is a separate match, and many will come and shoot both.

If interested, simply show up at Culbertson Cove (the building/camping area below the 1000 yard line) between 7:00-7:30 am. O'Connell will be doing squadding right there. It is a semi-informal match, with a chance to learn a little about mid-range shooting. Just show up with a 100 or 200 yard zero. There will be plenty of help with comeups from there. We typically have a free BBQ lunch immediately after the match.

    Lane
Come on out and have some fun at a distance most won't ever see with the old dog rifles. As pro-nra said, FMJ is legal, so no excuses from the guys with only surplus ammo.

They do lump all of us vintage guys together for scoring purposes (as-issued, target sights and scoped), but that's no reason to not try the match, even with open sights.

shot the match today and the weather was great, but i like a little heat ,it was only 94 today and tomorrow conditions will be very similar.at the begining today there was a light fishtailing headwind, and later thewind was from 9 oclock predominatly, but there was the occassional switch that was worth 2min at 600yds.
          Keep it simple!

Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to miss it, too, but not due to the "heat". My trip to the dentist this morning took much longer than I had anticipated and has pushed back my chore schedule for today by several hours. If I can get my stuff done, I'll be there, otherwise, I'll catch the next one.
