    1903A3

Hey guys I found the attached A3 with Kollmorgen scope. The seller is asking $500 for it, which seems like a good deal assuming it hasn't been D&T'ed, which the seller said it hasn't. What say the experts?

    Thanks!

    That rifle has been D&T'ed
Bolt has been turned down and the receiver cut to clear the bolt handle

Are the markings on the front of the receiver covered by the mount, or are they offset to each side?

Good question, could be an A4.

OP-does it have a front sight? If not can you post a pic of the front of the barrel from the top?

Good question, from the pic it is hard to tell.
Need a better pic of the front of the receiver

It sure looks like the serial number is visible next to the front of the base, which is a good sign. Unfortunately, someone has bent the bolt handle down more than a normal 03-A4 sniper bolt, which explains the huge bolt relief cut in the stock, essentially ruining it's value. The rear scope ring is not even mounted to the base, so they just set the scope on there for the photos. Look closely at the base and see if there are shims under the front. The base should have REDFIELD stamped on the side.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

I'm with Brian that I can almost see the serial number so could be at least and A4 receiver. Not sure about the rest of the rifle. Need more detailed high res pics.

It does have a front site. I will upload more pics when I get to a computer. The make qnd model are visible on the receiver but I dont think the serial is.

Yea, it modified and worthless, and none of you guys would be interested in offering the seller to buy it.

                  Its worth more then $500

Well if thats the case then it is not an A4 receiver. On an A4 the make, model and serial are visible as they are offset to make room for the scope mounting block.

If the receiver has not been drilled and tapped, is that scope mount simply being held on by the rear sight dovetail?

Whether it is an A4 or not may not make any difference. As hylander noted, it is not just the stock that has been relieved for the bolt handle, the receiver has also. Original A4's have a small relieve cut on the receiver for the bolt handle, but the relieve cut on the receiver in the picture looks much larger than the cut on an original A4.

Here are a couple of more pictures showing the front sight and other side of the scope mount. Sorry about the cell phone pics, thats what the seller sent me.

Thank you for all the help.

Dang, I remember when these things were dirt common. Drilling and tapping them turned them into a great shooter and that was done routinely.

It seems like the scope could be worth something too. While I highly doubt its a marine copy, they still seem to have a following based on my google fu.

Definitely an A4. Still not sure about the relief cut on the receiver. It looks like it is much more than the original relief cut on my A4.

                              How is the bore?

Is there a punch mark on the underside of the barrel beneath the front sight? I can't read the date on the barrel, but it looks like it could be an A4 barrel. In good condition that might be worth $500 by itself.
