Introducing My First Romanian SKS

I finally acquired my first Romanian SKS today from a fellow Calguns member. It is interesting in that it is all matching but the stock may have been a replacement stock, as it is unnumbered (although gorgeous). All the other numbered parts match and the barrel is nice and shiny.

About the only critique I could find were that it was missing the cleaning rod and the replacement stock. Every Romanian stock I've seen had the dark brown finish, and this one looks more like a Russian stock. The seller received it from AIM a few years ago still wrapped in cosmo and paper so I don't know the deal with that. I gave it a good cleaning and wanted to post up a few glamor shots. I have never had an SKS that was as easy to disassemble and reassemble as this one. It looks like the Romanians were on top of their tolerances because this rifle just snaps and unsnaps like a jigsaw puzzle.

Now I have to find a cleaning rod and that elusive leather dog collar sling....

The Century Romanians from 2010 were in excellent condition, none had cleaning rods and rare to have a matching stock. They were fired little if at all, maybe parade rifles. I like the fact that the Romanians followed the Russian spec very closely, and, like you said, are very well made. Beautiful rifle.

An all matching Romy isn't easy to come by. Grats! I'd appreciate a PM if you find any good repro dog collar slings. FYI, there was a guy on the SKS boards awhile back selling a couple real ones for big $$.

Yes thanks guys. It was actually suggested that the stock had the serial # sanded off when it was refinished. However, the person I bought it from got it direct from AIM and it was still in the grease. I have never seen a C&R rifle come from one of the big distributors with a refinished stock. Beat to hell is usually more like it.

If I get a lead on the dog collar slings I will post it but I get the first two! (For my other inbound Romanian SKS).

The refinished stocks were common on the batch that came in a few years back. They were advertised as coming from the palace guard or something like that.

Thanks a lot for the link. Anyone who sees all of that global use of the SKS could not help but wonder why some of us are so fascinated by this wonderful rifle. There is nothing else in the world that I enjoy collecting and shooting more.

Hey Bobby, I have an extra Romanian SKS sling. My Romanian M44 I bought a few months ago came with a sks sling and since then I have found a correct Romanian M44 sling. I'll give you a PM if I find it.

Nice Transylvanian special

My 1963 Chinese factory 26 rifle was immaculate and cosmo'd whn I bought it in 1990. All numbers match EXCEPT the stock...the stock is also immaculate but with the sling swivel on the bottom. I think in 63 they were still all on the side. The Yooper site shows wuth pictures this exact combination saying that a blank stock (side or bottom) swivel would replace a damaged original stock.
