It could have been that a guy had a gun out on a boat (maybe in a crappy holster?) and it fell in the water.

I wonder if it was loaded or if had a mag or no mag at all?

I imagine someone ditching a 'crime gun' would toss it loaded and all, someone dealing with dads estate (by throwing it a lake) would probably not bother to load it.
