    Question about buying c&r

I found someone selling an m44 and finally convinced the seller to do it cash and carry, initially he wanted to do a dros for it.

    1) A bill of sale, copy of driver license and statement saying I'm not a prohibited person is all I need correct?
    2) this is my first mosin, what should i look for?
    3) He doesn't want to meet at his place, i don't want to meet at my place. How do i go about inspecting the rifle without getting the cops called out? Open carry of longuns is banned so how can i look over the rifle in a public place?

Just a CDL will work...its a Mosin don't worry you cant go wrong...meet at a gun range or a gun store parking lot..

Just see if all parts gun work, bolt functions ect..is the wood all intact, rust on metal, bore ok, numbers match if your picky and seller asking bit more than normal.

      1) Correct
      2) Look the gun over for any signs of rust, pitting, cracks in the metal or stock, etc. Inspect the barrel and make sure the bore looks good to you. Dark bores are ok, just use a light to see down the bore to make sure the rifling is good. Make sure the action functions properly and that the bolt doesn't stick. Do the bullet test by sticking it in the muzzle - the more bullet showing, the less wear on the barrel. Basically it is the same process as looking over any other gun.
      3) Meet at an outdoor gun range. Hopefully he will let you shoot it before you buy it.
      4) Pick up some ammo.

If he has a c&r he needs your DL info, otherwise he doesn't need anything.

Any rust or cracks in the stock or metal, pretty uncommon to find any major defects.

I've met at gun shops, ranges, and parking lots. I let the buyer look over the rifle in the bed of my pickup
