    Gun Vice Question

What type of gun vice have you found to be the most universally useful for cleaning your bolt action or semi autos? I am contemplating getting either the Tipton Gun Vice, Tipton Best Gun Vice, or the MTM Case-Gard Portable Maintenance Center. Is there another one you prefer?

The Tipton models actually clamp down, while the MTM and similar just hold the rifle. In those you will experience some movement. If you just need something to hold your rifle while you clean it they're fine, but if you need something that will hold them steady, not so great.

I agree with BruinGuy. I like the MTM units for cleaning. They hold parts as you disassemble, places for patches, swabs, brushes, etc.

Just got my Tipton Best Gun Vise. Super item and makes everything so much easier. Worth it in my opinion. Got one on Amazon for $85.00 delivered.

Was busy last night working on my rapidly growing stash of Mosins, Mausers and Garands and my AR. The vise holds any one of these rifles securely.

I also got the Tipton 1911 vise which holds the pistol by the mag well on the vise base.

I have the Tipton Gun Vise and like it. My only problem is with a scoped M1A which is flipped upside down for cleaning. I have a scope mounted to it and the support piece in the middle of the vice gets in the way. I'm looking at getting the Tipton Best Gun Vise as it looks like the center support can be removed when needed.

I have the Tipton Best Vice and it works great. I was a little disappointed when I first got it because the clamps at the rear flex out quite a bit when clamping on a stock, but now that I've been using it a few years it is clear that it is strong enough not to break.

I have 2 hooks on the wall and I hang it up when I am not using it.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

The center support comes right off, you will have to slide the mounting bolt to either side or simply take off either end block, slide bolt off and reinstall block.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I like the idea of being able to clamp down my rifles for cleaning and working on them so I'm going for the Tipton Best Gun Vice.
