Does it have any arsenal marks? The one I have has a Triangle with a 26 in it. Arsenal 26, duh.

Yah, look for a triangle with a number. If it's a 26, we can date it. If it's any other number, you can't date it

If it's a 26, post the serial number and we'll tell you the date

it now is at a pawn shop for 10 day dros. i had a 1958 26 before. this one has no other major markings at all. the dust cover has no #.
sadly it was shot and never cleaned for a long time. i sure hope he did not shoot corrosive in it. i think he has some military ammo on stripper clips he is going to give me. is the yugo the only corrosive ammo for the SKS. i think the ammo is at least 15 years old.

no 26 or triangle, nothing. i guess after i get it back from dros i will take it apart and check further. it was shot a lot and not cleaned. i did not see rust in the chamber just powder residue.

                Notabiker,

Maybe you have seen these websites.

This website may help somewhat.... Has example pictures, serial numbers, markings etc. I know yours says imported from china but notice how the east german examples are the ones that have 2 numbers followed by a letter.

This nice site talks about the chinese sks without chinese characters as well.

Chinese SKS Type 56 ID FAQ update Apr 1 1. INTRODUCTION: China has been manufacturing SKS for over 50 years producing more SKS than any other nation. During this period, we've seen how it has evolved from the original design to the many variations. The main driving force for the changes was...

Well, since the "commercial" models were generally made up of surplus military spare parts it's not too likely you'll see much of a difference between a so-called commercial, later production surplus or refurbished earlier surplus rifle (and no real way to tell them apart

CGA seems to be a mark associated with "China Guangdon", one of the hundreds of "U.S." importers owned by Chinese, most of which disappeared after the late 80s early 90s

Not sure who came up with the term "pre-Norinco"- Norinco just happens to be a common marking on Chinese rifles- these "companies" are subsidiaries of the PLA and/or Chinese government rather than any kind of private arms company or even a single manufacturer

Note: The above is what I found from another source that I pasted.
