    M44 Mosin question

I just recently purchased an M44 and after a full teardown and cleaning I noticed that the rear screw seen here

Doest want to tighten up like if the hole is stripped. My question is does the screw thread into the wood or is there a nut of some type imbedded in the wood that it screws into? Any advise on how to fix this? Thanks for your help.

It threads into the trigger guard. Remove the screw and see what is stripped, the screw or the trigger guard. Also, the rear one is the longer screw. Remove the front one and compare the two. If the rear one isn't longer, then maybe someone put in 2 front screws.

I backed out the screw and slowly tightened the top and bottom screws. Tightened up fine. Thanks for the info, kouye.

Do you have any tips on how to fix the sloppy trigger? It has front/back and side/side play.

Check the tons of Youtube Vids.

Also: Liberty Tree Collectors (.com) has all parts you might need.

Yes^. I have watched some great videos on stock refinishing and I have started the process. Ive cleaned out all the junk on the stock and have sanded it down to a smoothe finish. I will most likely finish it up next weekend. So far the stock looks awesome in its "natural" state.

If by sloppy trigger, you mean it being loose then you need to add a trigger slack spring which will hold it in place rather than let it flop around.

Other mods will make the pull smoother and lighter.

Spring and other parts can be found here:

One trick I have for a sloppy trigger is to make "VERY" small washers out of a soda can (where typically only one is needed). Place the washer between the trigger and the receiver, pushing the trigger pin through each. It will remove the "side to slide" slack and if you do it right (hole just large enough for the trigger pin) will help prevent your trigger pin from inadvertently falling out.

              But that's just me!
