attempting to get into muzzle loading

If: I were to have bought a hand made muzzle loader that tty owner could not remember the size of the ID- what should I do? I have top notch calipers that read .556" from groove to groove . what size miniball cast ball sould i use

Form a lead plug with a taper that will start into the muzzle.

Drive it into the muzzle for about half an inch and measure it afterwards.

The measurment is actualy closer to a .58 caliber than anything else I can think of right off the bat. Is this gun a flint lock or a percussion lock? Where are you located if any where near the ntelope Valley in So. Calif we might get togeather and fit a ball, as a slug down the barrel for a true caliber finding. the way this is done is to get a ball remover tool which is a screw that attaches to a 10/32 ramrod to retrive the ball from the bore after it is forced down the barrel by a ramrod or a wooden dowl of a size just short of the barrels inner dim. be sure to use a pure lead ball to do thisand I would suggest you might get one from some one in your area that shootsbp 58 or 60 cal. dplandan@rglobal.net
