Shooting my K31 and Mosin Nagant

Went out to Lyttle Creek today, 200 rounds of 7.5x55 Swiss on the K31, only 40 on the Mosin. Finally figured out my K31 and loved the way she shoots.. accurate as heck. Will try to do 500 line next time. Only went up to 100 yards today.

And my wanna be Vassili Zaitsev Mosin.

Nice looking rifles and it looks like you had a great time.

What kind of ammo were you shooting?

Congratulation vice! They Mosin should run circles around the K31 as according to some people they are sub MOA rifles .

From the white and brown packaging on the bench it looks like are shooting GP11 and some kind of commie surplus rounds for the Mosin.

Now that you mention it, that does look like GP11 packaging on the bench.

Lytle Creek allows bi-metal milsurp? I thought they wouldn't allow ammo where the bullet attracts a magnet...

Looks like GP11 in the magazine.

The MN ammo looks like Russian LB or HB, likely LB as HB is not so common. Russian as opposed to Bulgarian because of the staple in the packaging rather than tied with string.

I put a diopter on my K31 as I had trouble with the v-notch with my old eyes. Amazing how much better it is. Now if I can find a magnifying insert, I can see the 500 yd gong.

              Awesome K31!

I've been meaning to get one, now it looks I'll have to take the plunge

I've got a diopter sighted K31 and wondered what the deal is with the magnifying inserts. I've seen magnified front and rear inserts. How do they work?

If you want a magnifying front inserts that might be a little hard to find as I have not seen one. However, if you are looking for one with lenses for the rear aperture then Gehmann makes all sorts of apertures but will probably cost more than the rifle.

I can't believe nobody else asked about this, but WTH is up with the Burlap sack wrapped around the pistol grip and barrel on your Mosin?

Russian milsurp on the mosin, GP11 on the K31.

Thanks! Do it! I picked up this old warhorse on impulse pre-panic before I knew anything about them... One of my best gun related purchases ever.

Should I dare add glass to these? I have heard that is sacrilegious!

I think Frank is talking about a clamp on mount for scope from SP. Otherwise it is blasphemy to DT a C&R rifle like the K31. For me, I will not shoot a scoped C&R unless it came with it like an 03-A4, M41B etc.

From my experience shooting several matches on paper target with my aperture CG-63 & CG-80 I've tied once (lost on the X count) and in most cases beat the scoped rifles. Iron is the way to go IMO.

I won't drill and tap one myself, but if someone else has done the dirty work...

I scope my C&R's when I get them (no d & t) and shoot them for a baseline at 100 and 200 yards. Then I put the iron sights back on to see how I shoot them. This way, I know it's my fault...

With the K31 though, I don't do so well with the iron sight so I put a diopter on (clamp on mount) and it works great to 500 yards. Our 500 yard gong doesn't always get repainted so it is hard to see with my old eyes even with the diopter. If I can cut that distance in 1/2 I would be able to see it, hence a magnifier. I could scope it, but I have a scoped Rem 700 for that kind of shooting.
