when i open my gun cabinet and smell that old military rifle smell come out it makes me happy. people that are not into milserp would not get it. it is the same smell i get at a old hole in the wall gun stores. kind of like going into a REAL Army surplus store back in the 50s.
Hoppies 9 solvent also brings back memories of shooting and cleaning my Remington 22 when i was a 10 year old in Fresno.

Slightly off topic, but the gun oil I prefer, EEZOX, smells better than most colognes.

un restored old cars that have not been smoked in also have a nice smell. each brand had a distinct smell. i used to be able to tell a brand by its smell inside.

I agree Bobby. To me it's the smell of deuce gear or an ALICE pack.

Speaking of smells, about 45 years ago I stilled some Hoppes on the rug in my bedroom
My mother was pissed because my room was next to the kitchen. Took for ever for the smell to dissipate. Still have a little left in the bottle after all these years

OMG!!!! we've been talking about that for years! hoppe's brand cologne, air fresheners, etc. anyhow, old guns smell incredible, my safe is full of them. now and then i just open it up, take a big whiff, and close it back up without even looking at my beauties. the smell of steel, wood, cosmoline, oil, sweat, blood, tears, and a bygone era is just so unique it takes you away. ditto on the old cars, minus the cosmo. now to drive in an old car with an old gun.....frickin' sensory overload! i'd probably have to be commited after that.
