    Laminate or solid wood?

    That's is my question.

Why is the laminated worth more, or cost more anyway... on rifles like the Mosin for instance.

Is it a collectible issue? Durability? Workmanship?

I would personally rather have the solid wood. What am I missing?

It costs more because they can get more for it. Fewer were made with laminated stocks.
It is more stable to warping.
This is true for any rifle and I would prefer laminated stocks if the price was the same.

Hmmm yeah, I get that aspect. I am familiar with what laminate is etc.. the benefits and so on.

I pretty much searched around and answered my own question.

I am upgrading my Mosin collection. I am thinking hex 91/30 and laminate M44 for now.

The laminate is like quite a bit more.

If you are collector, the lamis are rarer, but if you are just going to shoot it, I wouldn't pay a lot extra for it. I have mostly regular wood Mosins and just bought my first lami. The do look cool when you have not seen one in real life. That last batch all of the C&R dealers had were just beautiful condition.

Yeah, I am looking at Classic or J&G right now, maybe both.

I like the idea of a Hex 91/30, and I sold my used and abused Rommy M44 to upgrade to Russian version.

My 03 expired, but the ATF sent me a 'letter of authorization' while they take their sweet *** time with my renewal... Hope it doesn't cause any problems.

The laminated stock seems to hold the action bolt better than the wood and requires less retightening.

The laminated stock laquer seems quite a bit better than the wood stock, probably due to them being post war.

They also look better in my opinion.

              Laminate has my vote!

I bought this one from Classic Arms a few years ago (when they were still fairly cheap) and love it.

IMHO - Every C&R collection needs a laminate!

^^ Yup. Laminate does a nice look if you get a good one.

the laminated stock on my M 44 is so beautiful it just does not look right on a milsurp rifle. after 6 coats of Tung oil it looks like a custom stock on a Mosin.

The laminate stock is rarer, and to some people (like me) it is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

I ended up with the solid. I did ask for a nice one, so we'll see

I got one more rifle that I planned on, so it all evens out.

I'd say get both. I'm planning to pick up a Lami 44, hopefully soon.

their is a good supply of laminated Russian M-44s out their right now. my local hole in the wall gun store had about 6 of them. i paid 350 retail for it. the good part is i got to see what i was buying before i took it. i always wanted a Russian M-44 to go with my Romanian M-44. i like them a lot. i hope you find one.
