C&R & COE success.

Perhaps we could start some sort of list on this forum, of gun shops that understand what it means to have C&R + COE.....(no 10 day wait for C&R firearms purchases or transfers through a dealer)

Aristotle who runs the store was the one who suggested I get the permits.

I did my research here on Calguns - it is great for collecting, and working in the film industry (or any business that involves extensive travelling.)

I had to fly back to LA one time to pick up a rather rare handgun that had served it's time in prison, it became an expensive transfer.

I've done it at Tracy Rifle & Pistol at least a half a dozen times. The only issue is they usually have to call the owner, Mike, to reassure themselves that it is OK to do... just CYA I guess, no problem. Also, they always forget how to enter it into the computer correctly, since it seems myself and one other customer are the only ones who use their C&R and COE there.

J&R Sports Supply in Livermore seemed to be OK with the C&R/COE exemption on a C&R long arm purchase, but at the last minute they informed me that they had just got this rifle in on consignment, so I had to wait 29 more days for the 30 day FDAS hold :/

River City Gun Exchange in Sacramento is good to go on a C&R/COE exemption for a C&R purchase, but if you have a 9mm round laying in a pocket of the gun case you are carrying a 357 MAG Python in, they will chastise you for carrying a LOADED WEAPON INTO THEIR STORE - OMFG!!!! (good thing no one was injured)

City Arms in Pleasant Hill is OK with C&R/COE exemption, although they act like it is a hassle since you are disrupting their normal flow of paperwork. They are a busy store so yeah I guess it is strange to do something different once in a while.

Hook Line and Sinker in Oakley is NOT OK with C&R/COE exemption and will not listen to reason or try to learn the laws. I even tried to use my C&R as proof of residency on a PPT of an Encore frame and they refused to look at it because it wasn't on their handmade sign on the counter saying what is acceptable. I went home and got the title to my truck and they wouldn't take that either, saying it doesn't have an expiration date. Uh, yes it does, it's a commercial vehicle.... oh damn, uh, we don't take those period now. I no longer have the patience to deal with them.

That's all I can think of. ALL of these places, with the exception of Tracy, act like it is something "fishy" and they aren't sure if you should be "getting away with it". YMMV.

I had a C&R for three years - it has just lapsed this month. I had the COE for the first year and then I let it lapse because I couldn't afford all the stuff I was buying. Great to taste freedom though - however brief and expensive it was.

Don't forget if you are visiting las Vegas, you can work with gun shops there, or even get a ups box their if you visit there a lot, just don't forget to register it when you get back to California, paperwork downloadable on line and is presently $19.

You realize it is not really freedom - but the perception of freedom - we have basically divulged all of our personal data, address, fingerprints, etc., and the access to our premises should they want it - without any probable cause, save their curiosity (best case scenario) - to the government in order to maintain a hobby.
I don't wish to be the voice of gloom, but it is not really freedom, except from a ten day waiting period.

Anyway, I write this with a cynical smile, and Hell, I enjoy the heck out of my collecting hobby, more so, now with the COE and FFL.
