    classicarms m24/52

Here's a couple pix of my M24/52 that I bought about a month ago and finally got around to cleaning. It's in great shape and the serial on the receiver, bolt and stock match. The floorplate is force matched but it is a re-arsenal so I'm happy with what I got. Nice condition overall with a great bore. Good price for a standard length Mauser.

There is a repair on the heel of the stock made from the same wood as the handguard. Other than that it's if great shape. I'd gladly take the repair in exchange for the matching serial number.

Does anyone know how these compare to original VZ-24 Mausers? Better finish etc.? I've heard that the Czech ones are pretty nice.

I really wanted one of these but I didn't get my C&R in time. Congrats, and kudos for proper form in including the toe shot. Kids these days don't include the toe shots anymore.

My vz 24 is pretty cool, it feels heavy and nicely built. Mine came with the extra power spring for Yugo ammo so I can't comment on the original trigger pull but the 300 meter rear sight zero is kind of ridiculous, does yours also come with the 300 meter zero?

if the wood on my 1950 M-48 was as nice as yours i would still own it. it was the roughest wood finish i ever had on a milserp. almost got slivers wiping it down.

When you have feet as big as mine, it's hard to avoid the toe shot.

I bought crampons last saturday at REI that were adjustable "one size fits all" but I still had to get extra long plates to make 'em fit.

After cleaning the cosmo off of it, I scrubbed it twice with BLO then gave it two hand rubbed coats. Then I finished it off with some gunny grease. The wood was really nice as far as mil surps I have owned go. The handguard was a mess though. Different wood and it was finished really roughly. As you say, it was covered in slivers. I gave it a very light sanding just to clean it up and allow the oiling. One of the few times a sanded part looked better than the original. They must have been making the handguards fast when they rearsenaled the the rifles because it was pretty bad.

I could swap it for a m24 handguard but I like the story this handguard tells about this rifle's life.

That is a very nice looking Mauser, Tok

I bought one at an on-line auction about a month ago and should be able to pick it up from my FFL tomorrow.

I looked it over before it started the 10 day wait and it looked pretty good... all matching, wood in good shape, but everything covered in cosmo.

All I have are the auction pics for now.

I think the Czech ones are nice, but the M24/52c's look pretty nice too. The bore on mine looks brand new.

Awesome. You know, it's crazy. All I could do was complain about the cosmoline while I was cleaning it off the gun, but it's really the only reason any of our milsurps are in shooting condition.

I have an RC k98 that I'm going to do the same treatment for (after I strip off the awful Russian shellac), I'm interested to see how the rifles compare since at first glance, they are very similar (I mean quality of the rifle rather than design differences).

I was reading somewhere that even with all the modern rust inhibitors, cosmoline is still the gold standard for rust prevention.

It makes me wonder how they planned to get them into service quickly from storage. I imagine they dip them in big tanks of degreaser and then do a more detailed cleaning.

Or maybe they stored them with collectors in mind
